23 Things #8

#8 of the 23 Things is: Learn about RSS and newsreaders, create a Bloglines account (and subscribe to newsfeeds), and blog about this experience. You can view my blogroll here: cassidyc26

I created a Google Reader account awhile ago. I didn't really notice much of a difference between Google Reader and Bloglines; both seem to offer easy-to-use newsreaders (or aggregators or RSS readers or feed readers...whatever you want to call it!). One use I can see for this: it would be a great way for librarians to stay up-to-date on current events (important for a reference librarian!) and/or news related to the librarian profession. It can be difficult to remember to visit all of the informational sites you know that you should---using a RSS newsreader will help you stay up-to-date on a variety of topics. Also, many libraries publish RSS feeds of library-related news. I think RSS readers are insanely convenient and infinitely useful. Pretty much anyone can benefit from using a newsreader.
